The Department of Agriculture, Weights and Measures (AWM) hosted the 12th Annual California Association of Standards and Agricultural Professionals (CASAP) Statewide Conference Jan. 18 and 19 at the County Operations Center. The conference brought together professionals from throughout the state, providing a venue to discuss important issues. Topics included leadership and decision-making, as well as pesticide regulation, quarantines, plant import and export, certified farmers’ markets, and weights and measures. Cooperation with Mexican officials enabled attendees the opportunity to visit the Otay Mesa Border Station for a behind-the-scenes look at the movement of agricultural commodities between the U.S. and Mexico. AWM staff also demonstrated the taxi meter dynamometer and Dog Team package inspections. Department attendees learned about a wide variety of agricultural and standards activities, helping them to develop a broader perspective.
