Lead agency coordinating the County’s response to emergency disasters

OES acts as staff to the Unified Disaster Council—UDC is a joint powers agreement between all 18 incorporated cities and the County to coordinate planning and programs in the event of a large scale disaster

Increased the number AlertSanDiego registrations and SD Emergency mobile application downloads by 3.5%

Facilitated Coastal Warrior 2017, the largest full-scale terrorism preparedness exercise ever conducted within San Diego County. More than 70 local, state and federal agencies were represented by more than 1,000 individuals in the 2 day exercise

Increased the number of San Diego County disaster service workers registered with San Diego County’s Advanced Recovery Initiative by 12%, exceeding the goal of 3%

The national Emergency Management Accreditation Program evaluated the County’s emergency management program using 63 rigorous and measurable standards of excellence. Each of these standards was passed at the conclusion of the peer review process and OES achieved re-accreditation

OES acquired and deployed a cache of 14 emergency power generators and 11 support trailers. During blackouts, these resources will provide emergency power at locations throughout the region. Electrical power will be available at charging stations and shelters for maintaining equipment, providing lighting, and powering emergency communication systems
