Vital Aging 2015: Boosting Your Brainpower

The nearly 2,000 participants of the June 17 Vital Aging Conference learned how food, exercise, social interaction and doing what’s “novel and complex” can improve brain health. Keynote speaker was Dr. Paul Nussbaum, who emphasized that our brain doesn’t care about our age, only how we take care of it and use it. Hosts for the conference were County Supervisors Dianne Jacob and Greg Cox. HHSA Director Nick Macchione also spoke. Information about the County’s Alzheimer’s Project was provided, as well.

Big thanks to the event sponsors: Sharp HealthCare, NorCAN, KGTV-Channel 10/Azteca San Diego, HHSA Behavioral Health and Public Health, AARP California, SilverSneakers Fitness, UC San Diego Health System and Kaiser Permanente.

Aging & Independences Services Director Ellen Schmeding led the team who coordinated the event, including Kristen Smith and Kari Carmody with the AIS Health Promotion Unit.
