Purpose

The Child Health Disability Prevention (CHDP) program Treatment and Reimbursement (TR) provides reimbursement for diagnosis and treatment of certain medical and dental conditions detected during CHDP well-child screening exams for children who have no other health care resources.

If you are a physician interested in providing TR services, please call Dr. Thomas R. Coleman, Chief of Maternal, Child, and Family Health Services at 619-692-8808.

Services

TR will pay for diagnosis and treatment of certain medical and dental conditions found during the CHDP well-child screening exam. The condition must be 'new' and not have been previously treated.

TR will pay for services rendered to children birth-18 years old (under 19), who reside in San Diego County, and are:

  • Determined "eligible for CHDP services only" through the CHDP Gateway pre-enrollment process
  • Not eligible for Medi-Cal without a share of cost or eligible for Medi-Cal with a share of cost and elect TR coverage instead of Medi-Cal
  • Not eligible for treatment from any other source such as California Children's Services (CCS), Regional Center, private insurance, Head Start or other public program
  • Referred by the CHDP primary care provider for services

TR payment is considered payment in full and providers may not submit additional bills to the family.
