Six-year-old Mirage Lemus began learning folklorico dance at the Ramona Library when the program started in October of 2010. "I like the dresses," she says. "The teacher loans us a dress when we perform." The dancers learn the traditional steps to Mexican folk songs. "Los Machetes" is one of Mirage's favorites.
Erendira Martinez, now 16, has been dancing since she was 8 years old with Ramona del Sol, the library's partner in teaching folklorico dance. "It's really fun," Erendira says. "We get to perform in front of people and I like helping the younger dancers."
