LINCOLN ACRES LIBRARY HOSTS ANNUAL 'CELEBRATION OF LIFE' IN HONOR OF STAFF MEMBER
November 8, 2012
Lincoln Acres Library staff member José Luis Rodriguez was murdered on November 23, 2007, just minutes before his eighteenth birthday. The community of Lincoln Acres and the Lincoln Acres Library staff honor his memory each year at the Celebration of Life. The Celebration is taking place on Saturday, December 8 from 1-3 p.m. at the Lincoln Acres Library, 2725 Granger Ave. This event is free and open to the public.
Supervisor Greg Cox will be present at the Celebration to award José Luis Rodriguez Scholarships to two local students. The scholarships are made possible through community donations to the Friends of the Lincoln Acres Library scholarship fund. Scholarship information can be found at http://sdcl.org/jlr-scholarship.html. Entertainment will include a showcase of local youth talent, including Summer Crest Hawaiian and Belly Dance Group, Casa del Sol Karate Do, and Hollywood Music Studio. Additionally, the event will feature face painting, balloon animals, information and craft booths, and free refreshments.
The murder of Rodriguez remains a mystery, and a $50,000 reward is being offered for its resolution. More information can be found at http://www.sdcrimestoppers.com/unsolvedmurders.html.
"Every year we invite the community to come together in celebration of a wonderful person. José was perpetually upbeat and loved helping kids and teens," said Branch Manager José Ocadiz. "He continues to be an inspiration to us each and every day."
