  • 3,700 Acres
  • Los Penasquitos Gardens
  • Recreation for Hikers, Bicyclists and Equestrians

The park features a historic adobe ranch house built in 1823 by the recipients of the first Mexican land grant in San Diego County. The house was enlarged in 1862, and the building and site now comprise a National Historic and Archaeological District. The preserve also offers hiking, biking and equestrian trails - in addition to a desginated area for weddings and receptions.

Established in 2012, Los Penasquitos Gardens are comprised of 20 6' x 16' garden boxes with drip irrigation, superior soil, and access to nearby tool lockers - providing lessees with the space and amenities they need to grow their own produce. The cost is $120 per year. Gardeners are required to visit weekly and garden every season. Call 858-484-7504 for information, and to be added to the wait list. Please be prepared to share your first and last name, your phone number, your email addresss and a general overview of your gardening experience. You can also send a message to a park ranger.
