Eye Gnats

Normally found in very low numbers in San Diego County, eye gnats:
- Are small, shiny black flies approximately 1/16 inch in size
- Breed in organically rich soil
- Feed on the protein in body secretions (mucus, for example) to produce eggs
- Can be an annoyance to people and animals
Eye gnats are often confused with fruit flies or fungus gnats:
