About AIS Advisory Council
The name of this organization shall be the “ADVISORY COUNCIL FOR AGING AND INDEPENDENCE SERVICES (Sec. 82.)”. It shall serve the Board of Supervisors and the Health & Human Services Agency as both the Area Agency on Aging for Planning and Service Area (PSA) #23 and for other additional services provided by the AIS for seniors and persons with disabilities.
Purpose
In accordance with provisions of Title III of the Older Americans Act of 1965, as amended, the Mello/Granlund Older Californians Act, and the requirements of the local jurisdiction in this area, the Advisory Council serves the following purposes:
Sec. 1. To advise and assist Aging & Independence Services (AIS), the Health and Human Services Agency, the Chief Administrative Officer, and the Board of Supervisors in the preparation, development, and evaluation of County programs, procedures, budget and policies in accordance with the duties and responsibilities defined in the Older Americans Act (Sec. 82.1(a)).
Sec. 2. To encourage and facilitate public participation in the development of Aging & Independence Services policy in order to insure inclusion of citizens' perspectives (Sec. 82.1(b)).
Sec. 3. To advise Aging & Independence Services relative to developing and administering the Area Plan; conducting public hearings, representing the interest of older persons. (Sec. 82.1(b)).
Sec. 4. To carry out advisory functions which further Aging & Independence Services’ mission of developing and coordinating community-based systems of services for all older persons and persons with disabilities in the planning and service area (Sec. 82.1(b)).
Sec. 5. To review and comment on all community policies, programs and actions with the intent of assuring maximum coordination and responsiveness to older persons and persons with disabilities (Sec. 82.1(b)).
Sec. 6. To participate with Staff of the Aging & Independence Services in determining future programming.
Sec. 7. To serve as the principal advocate body in PSA #23 on behalf of senior citizens and persons with disabilities including participation on other planning bodies of the County.
