Green Ribbon

Since 1949, May has been a time to talk openly about mental health. This year’s theme, “Hope for Change”, draws our attention to the present moment, allows us to reflect on the growth we’ve experienced, and move toward the future. The County of San Diego, along with the larger community who support loved ones with mental health conditions, will once again focus on raising awareness, offering support, and sharing local resources.

To maintain safety and comply with public health orders, all events will continue to be virtual. Many activities will be on social media where we can all meaningfully connect. Please use the resources on this page to discover new ways to share May Is Mental Health Month with your community.

Exercise is proven to alleviate elevated levels of stress and anxiety in many ways. Explore the mental health benefits of exercise or visit the County's Parks and Recreation webpage (sdparks.org) for opportunities to engage in physical activities.



Hope for Change


Directing Change is a film and art contest for youth that provides the opportunity to learn about and have a voice in mental health, suicide prevention, and other important topics. San Diego County youth can win up to $300 dollars in prizes! Create a film, narrative, or art piece and submit your entry by the end of every month. Learn more about monthly submission opportunities at  www.DirectingchangeCA.org.

Green Ribbon Activities

The lime green ribbon is the international symbol for mental health awareness. It’s worn or displayed to symbolize support for ending mental health discrimination. Visit the Green Ribbon Activities page to learn more ways to show your support for mental health awareness.

If you or someone you care about is in crisis or would like behavioral health resources or support, please call the Access and Crisis Line at (888) 724-7240 (24 hours a day, 7 days a week). Calls are answered by experienced counselors, with assistance available in over 150 languages.
