Green Ribbon

Show Your Support for Mental Health Awareness

The lime green ribbon is worn or displayed to symbolize support for the awareness of mental health issues and the elimination of stigma and discrimination. It is a way to open the conversation about mental health and mental illness and to explore ideas how to reduce the stigma and discrimination of those with mental health challenges.

Here are a few of the many ways you can use a green ribbon to raise awareness, reduce stigma and celebrate May Is Mental Health Month.

How you can participate

Print a green ribbon (link to green ribbon pdf) and place in a window, on a door or in your yard where visible to others.

  • Make a sign with a green ribbon or #stigmafreesd, take a photo and share it on Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter. Be as creative as you would like!
  • Complete the following sentence and post to Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter: "It's Up to Us to end the stigma around mental illness because. . .            ."
  • Print a green ribbon and write why mental health is important to you, take a picture and post on social media.

Include the hashtag #StigmaFreeSD with your posts to be part of the local conversation and invite your family and friends to join the movement here in San Diego.

Note: Posts will be highlighted locally throughout the month of May in support of National Mental Health Month. Post privacy settings must be set to "PUBLIC" in order for your photo and caption to be seen by others.
