Abbott BinaxNOW Antigen Test Kits
Abbott BinaxNOW POC antigen test kits are now available in San Diego County for approved health care partners. These point-of-care (POC) antigen diagnostic tests detect the presence of the SARS-CoV-2 virus and can provide results in less than 20 minutes. Antigen tests have been added to the COVID-19 testing arena to meet the growing demand to identify COVID-19 positive individuals.
If you are interested in receiving these test kits, note a few of the following requirements which are listed in the attachment in further detail:
- UPDATES: Note that CDPH is now allowing organizations to receive and use BinaxNOW kits after the application is submitted (versus after it’s approved) under an emergency temporary allowance detailed here.
- Apply for a Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) waiver through CDPH Laboratory Field Services: New Online Application
- Read and acknowledge role and responsibilities in the BinaxNOW Antigen Test Kit Distribution Program
- Complete and sign the Attestation and Trained Staff Table (PDF has 2 pages) – Organizational Checklist and Staffing List for the BinaxNOW Antigen Test Kits.
- Email and attach Proof of Clinical Laboratory Improvements (CLIA) waiver, or a copy of the application submission (with application number), along with the completed and signed PDF Checklist/Attestation, and the Trained Individual List to: LOGS.TESTING.HHSA@sdcounty.ca.gov
After the Application is submitted, please follow up by sending the CLIA waiver when you receive it
- Requests will be processed by the County’s Testing Logistics team. Incomplete forms will delay delivery. Please allow 2-3 days for processing.
Where to Report a Positive Coronavirus Test
- Steps to take if healthcare personnel (HCP) is suspected or confirmed to have COVID-19
- Positive lab tests should be reported to the San Diego County Epidemiology Unit through the normal reporting process, via fax, (858) 715-6458, using the COVID-19 Confidential Morbidity Report Form.
- All positive and negative SARS-CoV-2 test results (including antigen and serology tests that have an Emergency Use Authorization from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration) must be reported by laboratories.
