PLEASE NOTE: Beware of phony websites and questionable in-person COVID-19 testing locations popping up throughout the County. Testing sites should NEVER ask you to provide your Social Security Number or other personal non-medical information, such as, your driver’s license. Legally operating testing sites should be able to show, upon request, their medical credentials, what laboratory test is being used, and with which medical provider(s) they are associated.

Follow these tips to avoid COVID-19 testing scams:

  • No-cost COVID-19 tests are available to everyone in the United States, regardless of insurance status. So, if a testing site is insisting you pay for a test, especially if they expect you to pay hundreds of dollars, it is most likely a scam.
  • Watch out for lookalike websites. Before entering your personal information to an online form, make sure the website you are visiting is secure and there are no misspellings or unfamiliar names in the URL bar.
  • Be cautious of unwanted calls and messages. No company or health clinic will call, text, or email you without your permission.
  • Read the fine print on any documentation you are asked to sign. Question where the personal information is being kept as well as if it is secure, what lab is processing the results, and read the agreement carefully before signing.
  • Only get tested at licensed testing sites or health centers. Visit your state, tribal, local, or territorial health department’s website to find an authorized testing site in your area.
