The San Diego CIREN Center is a collaborative effort between the six regional Trauma Centers and the County of San Diego, Health & Human Services Agency, Division of Emergency Medical Services.

San Diego CIREN is one of 8 national CIREN centers involved in the research project and is funded by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) to conduct crash injury research.

The CIREN Centers perform medical and engineering research on serious crash injuries that contributes to the efforts of NHTSA and the automotive industry to improve safety. CIREN research helps advance the development, testing, and evaluation of new approaches and technologies for the prevention of injuries, and to foster new techniques for more effective emergency medical transport and treatment of crash injured people.
