Lead agency coordinating the County’s response to emergency disasters
OES acts as staff to the Unified Disaster Council—UDC is a joint
powers agreement between all 18
incorporated cities and the County to coordinate planning and programs
in the event of a large scale disaster
Increased the number AlertSanDiego registrations and SD Emergency
mobile application downloads by 28% and 36% respectively due to
preparedness efforts by San Diego County residents in response to the
Lilac Fire, Thomas Fire, Santa Barbara Mudslide and other emergencies
Increased the number of San Diego County disaster service workers
registered with San Diego County’s Advanced Recovery Initiative by 3%, meeting the goal of 3%
The Office of Emergency Services, in coordination with the
Department of Homeland Security, conducted a regional Tabletop
Exercise (TTX) in preparation for the regional Full-Scale Exercise
scheduled for November 2019. Regional plans, policies and procedures
were discussed. Best practices, gaps and opportunities for
improvements were identified. 137 emergency responders attended
OES acquired and deployed a cache of 12 emergency shelter trailers. Six trailers will be stored in a
central location and six
trailers will be housed at strategic locations throughout the county

2018 NACo Achievement Award for “Know Your Hazards Map” –
The Know Your Hazards Map is an interactive online map that allows
a user to search for an address or place a pin on a map and explore
the potential for wildfire, earthquake, flooding, and tsunami hazards
that may exist at their home, work or school. The tool also includes
important preparedness actions that can mitigate risks and protect families
2018 NACo Achievement Award for “Portable Charging Stations”
– OES created and implemented a fully functional portable charging
station program to support charging stations for medical assistance
devices anywhere in the region. The program includes 14 generators and 11 support trailers and will also
provide lighting and power to emergency communication systems
