About the 4S Ranch Library
"This place is family oriented," Branch Manager June Zhou says of the 4S Ranch branch of San Diego County Library. Opened to the public on April 26, 2007, the 4S Ranch Library is located in 4S Commons Center and serves as a community hub, focused on their large population of children and teens that flood the branch on a daily basis.
The 4S Ranch branch is 7,214 square feet and has a fluctuating collection size of around 28,000 items. Despite its relatively small size, 4S Ranch is ninth out of thirty-three SDCL branches in terms of how many items customers check out monthly at their library. Each month, 4S Ranch checks out about 33,000 items to the public, with the majority of these items being children's books and media materials, such as DVDs.
Children's programs are also a big hit at 4S Ranch, with weekly storytimes boasting upwards of 70 kids. The Summer Reading Program is always a huge hit, and 4S Ranch staff host duplicates of each youth program in order to allow all of their customers the chance to take part. Luckily for the community, the Friends of the 4S Library offer generous donations in order to make all of these programs possible.
On the adult side of things, the 4S Ranch library hosts a new rotating art display that allows members of the community to share their creativity with the public. The current display is by R.A. Zuckerman and features paintings of community scenes, many taking place at the library. This display also includes an informational guide to each piece of art and is very popular with the community.
The 4S library has nine public Internet stations, free wireless internet connections, a 53 person capacity community room that can be reserved by the public, and a variety of free educational programs.
