Join the San Diego County Library in celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month with the 8th annual Spring Valley Library Fiesta. The Fiesta will take place at the Spring Valley Library (836 Kempton Street) on Saturday, Sept. 21, from 1-4 p.m., and feature free entertainment and activities for all ages.

The annual Fiesta shows the unity and cultural richness of the Spring Valley community. There will be various county and public agencies hosting information booths, plus laser tag, video games, henna tattoos, face painting, health screenings, caricature drawings, low rider cars, food and much more. Music will be provided by Rondalla de San Diego, the Headstart Youth, La Presa Middle School Jazz Band and a live DJ. There will be a Ballet Folklorico competition, an art exhibition by muralist Salvador Barajas, and an opportunity to meet author Daniel Reveles.

Barajas is not only a well-known muralist, but he also painted the mural on the exterior of the Spring Valley Library and is part of the library's Legends Exhibit. The Legends Exhibit is comprised of painted portraits, photographs, and impact statements about six local elders who lead by example. The exhibit will be on display during the Fiesta. Visit www.sdcl.org/legends for more information about the exhibit.

"In the beginning you do artwork to fulfill material needs, in later years you create to satisfy your soul," Barajas said.

For more information about the Fiesta, contact branch staff at (619) 463-3006, or visit www.sdcl.org.
