What is Respite Care?
The Child Family Well-Being (CFWB) Respite program provides temporary childcare relief for foster parents and kinship caregivers (relative or Non-Related Extended Family Member (NREFM)). The program is designed to prevent burnout and give caregivers the essential time they need to rest, recharge, and reduce stress. This vital support helps families stay strong, healthy, and equipped to deliver excellent care.
Who is Eligible/Criteria?
Respite care is for foster parents, kinship caregivers (relative and NREFM), with at least one San Diego County dependent (foster) child, from ages 0 to 17, placed in their care.
The approval is for 34 respite hours per month for the purpose of:
- Appointments
- Attending support group meetings and trainings
- Self-Care
Biological parents with a CFWB case plan may be eligible for respite care and should discuss with their Social Worker.
