How to Search the Zoning Ordinance
This webpage provides a walkthrough on how to search the County of San Diego Zoning Ordinance.
Step 1
Identify the Zoning Ordinance Tab (blue) and locate the Search icon (yellow)
Step 2
Locate “Select Locations to Search” (yellow)
Step 3
“San Diego County” may already be inputted, but type in “San Diego County” or scroll down to find the location and a pencil/editing tool next to the name (yellow)
Step 4
After clicking the pencil/editing tool, you can uncheck/check all preferred sections to search. This will also allow you to limit search to specific parts of the Zoning Ordinance. Examples below show checking the Zoning Ordinance only (left) and what it looks like to do drop-down to select/deselect specific parts of the Zoning Ordinance (right). Remember to click SAVE.
Step 5
Use other filters as needed. “Select ordering method” (yellow) and selecting “Document Order” will bring results up in the order of the Zoning Ordinance parts.
Word searches (on the right) can help with searching broadly or more specifically. If searching for “Dog Park”:
- “All of these words” would search “dog” “park” and “dog park”
- “This exact phrase” would only show where “dog park” is shown
If “Find alternative word forms (stemming)” is turned on (blue), that will help include capitalization differences and where words may have similar meeting for use a different word (“house” vs. “dwelling”)
Step 6
If you want to save a search because you look for the same word/phrases often, you can do so by creating a free account by clicking “Login” (blue) and signing up with your county email (yellow).
After you’re logged in, you can do a search using the steps above that then click “Save Search” (orange) to have quicker access to results.
