Pesticide Regulation

The Pesticide Regulation Program (PRP) enforces pesticide laws and regulations in San Diego County. Our mission is to protect people and the environment by promoting the safe use of pesticides.

PRP regulates all pesticide use in San Diego County through inspections, investigations, outreach and education, and other such tasks as:

  • Inspect for safe and legal pesticide use. This can be “tarp-checks” on houses being fumed for pests or checking how companies apply pesticides.
  • Investigate pesticide illness and injuries. This can range from doctors reporting a patient being treated for pesticide exposure or responding to complaints of pesticides being misused or causing harm.
  • Conduct outreach to help businesses follow state guidelines. We host trainings for workers who use pesticides and help companies register and report pesticide use. We also host events for proper disposal of pesticide products.
