Countywide Activities
The County of San Diego's CalFresh Healthy Living program works to implement policy, systems, and environmental (PSE) changes in CalFresh Healthy Living-eligible communities to support healthier and more active lifestyles for all San Diego County residents. In addition to the four program domains (LIVE, LEARN, PLAY, and SHOP), the below activities span across multiple domains and have influence countywide.
Active Transportation
The CalFresh Healthy Living program is guided by
the Social
Ecological Model to improve the likelihood that
the SNAP-Ed eligible population will increase healthy behaviors
through active transportation. The program works closely with
residents, stakeholders, and cities to develop and advance the
adoption of active transportation policies and implement
environmental changes that can help lead to these changes.
City Policy and Design
CalFresh Healthy Living partners with local cities to provide technical assistance on city policies and built environments to improve food systems, active transportation, and the general and health and well-being of residents.
Community-Directed Enrichment Projects
CalFresh Healthy Living supports impactful, equitable, and sustainable Community-Directed Enrichment Projects through community-based organizations to address health disparities.
Lactation Supportive Environments
CalFresh Healthy Living provides training and technical assistance for lactation supportive services and supports workplace lactation policy development.
Partnership with Land Use and Environment Group
CalFresh Healthy Living continues to partner with Land Use and Environment Group (LUEG) on PSE changes related to food access, food systems, and climate change.
Sugar-Sweetened Beverage Consumption
CalFresh Healthy Living advocates for improved water access, funding to improve drinking water infrastructure, and healthier beverage promotion language in school and workplace policies. CalFresh Healthy Living promotes Rethink Your Drink and similar messaging to encourage community members to switch their sugar-sweetened beverages for water and other unsweetened drinks.
Workplace Wellness Initiatives
CalFresh Healthy Living implements the Live Well @ Work program with CalFresh Healthy Living-eligible employers and implements PSE changes at these sites to ensure a healthier working environment for all employees.
Youth-Led Health Promotion Communications
CalFresh Healthy Living implements communication strategies with the Live Well San Diego Equity Ambassador Program (LEAP), which represents youth and young adults (ages 16-24) across San Diego County, to develop engaging messaging and content geared towards youth.
