About Public Health Services

Public Health has over 170 years of history in San Diego County.  Public Health Services (PHS) is the local health department and is part of the Health and Human Services Agency at the County of San Diego.

What We Do:

We: 

  • Help prevent the spread of disease, 
  • Protect against environmental hazards, 
  • Prevent injuries, 
  • Promote healthy behaviors, 
  • Help communities recover from disaster, and
  • Make sure the quality and ease of access of health services throughout the county. 

The PHS Administration branch offers support to the six programmatic branches and their related programs. They are also responsible for coordinating a unified response from the department.
