Access to Healthy Foods

In 2022, CalFresh Healthy Living and the Live Well Community Market Program provided support to five small neighborhood markets in San Diego County and assisted market owners in transforming their produce sections to promote healthier options. Learn more here.

Active Transportation - Vista

Healthy Cities, Healthy Residents supported Vista residents to develop an Active Transportation Plan (ATP) for the Townsite community. ATPs are a collection of funding mechanisms and policy recommendations to help improve public health by increasing access to active transportation such as walking, biking, and public transportation. Active Transportation - Ocenside

Healthy Cities, Healthy Residents collaborated with the City of Oceanside to improve the safety and walkability of the Crown Heights community by installing new sidewalks, pedestrian ramps, stop signs, and striping in the fall of 2022. View the video here

Community Gardens

CalFresh Healthy Living supported the YMCA's Kinship Family Garden Project, designed to strengthen families and communities and teach valuable gardening skills. Learn more here.

Nutrition Education

CalFresh Healthy Living partnered with San Diego Rescue Mission to offer a hands-on healthy living and nutrition education series as a required course in the Mission Academy program for shelter residents. Learn more here.

Physical Education

CalFresh Healthy Living partnered with San Diego Unified School District to implement the “Increasing Movement through Physical Activity in Class Time” program in 60 San Diego schools, engaging students and improving their health and fitness. Learn more here.

School Wellness

CalFresh Healthy Living staff and Community Health Workers used stencil designs to paint fun and educational activities on the playground at Carson Elementary STEAM Magnet School. Activities such as hopscotch feature fun colors and information about nutrition and physical activity. Learn more here.
