Public Assistance Programs

Public assistance programs help people who need food, health care, and cash (money). These programs support individuals in need, including many non-citizens who may qualify.

Public assistance programs include:

• CalFresh - Food assistance
• CalWORKs - Cash assistance for families with children
• Medi-Cal - Health Insurance
• Cash Assistance Program for Immigrants (CAPI) - Cash assistance for immigrants ineligible for Supplemental Security Income (SSI) due to their immigration status
• General Relief - Cash assistance for adults without children

Other food assistance may be available to individuals no matter their immigration status through:

• Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) - Helps low-income pregnant women and children up to 5 years old with free healthy food, nutrition education, and more. 
• San Diego Food Bank
• Feeding San Diego
