Public Assistance Programs
Public assistance programs help people who need food, health care, and cash (money). These programs support individuals in need, including many non-citizens who may qualify.
Public assistance programs include:
- CalFresh - Food assistance
- CalWORKs - Cash assistance for families with children
- Medi-Cal - Health Insurance
- Cash Assistance Program for Immigrants (CAPI) - Cash assistance for immigrants ineligible for Supplemental Security Income (SSI) due to their immigration status
- General Relief - Cash assistance for adults without children
Other food assistance may be available to individuals no matter their immigration status through:
- Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) - Helps low-income pregnant women and children up to 5 years old with free healthy food, nutrition education, and more.
