Cash Assistance Program for Immigrants (CAPI) FAQs
-
How do I apply for CAPI?
You may also call the Access Customer Call Service Center at 1-866-262-9881
-
How long should it take to process my application?
All CAPI applications must be processed as soon as possible but no later than thirty (30) calendar days from the date the application was filed. The County must notify the applicant if eligible or not, no later than 30 calendar days from the date of application. The exceptions to this rule are if a disability must be determined or if the County needs information from United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) to process the application.
-
Can a homeless person get CAPI?
Yes. A person must reside in the county in which an application is filed. Residing in permanent housing or having a fixed mailing address is not required.
-
Will the county report my immigration status to the immigration authorities?
No. Your immigration status information will only be used to check if you are eligible for CAPI. However, if your sponsor is not meeting their obligation to properly support you, they will be reported to USCIS if you have to receive aid because of that.
