The County of San Diego Office of Labor Standards and Enforcement (OLSE) has authority to accept complaints about certain laws. Please see in the menu under the enforcement tab for more information relating to these laws.

Regarding wage and hour law (for example, minimum wage, overtime, meal and rest breaks, and off-the-clock work), if you believe your rights have been violated, you may file a complaint with the California Labor Commissioner.

If you believe you have been harassed or discriminated against, you may file a complaint either with the California Civil Rights Department (CRD, formerly Department of Fair Employment and Housing or DFEH) or federal Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC).

The Division of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH), better known as Cal/OSHA, protects and improves the health and safety of working people in California. If you would like to report workplace safety or health hazards to Cal/OSHA, you may do so here: https://www.dir.ca.gov/dosh/complaint.htm.

For unemployment or disability benefits, please contact the California Employment Development Department.

The Employee Rights Center (ERC) in San Diego could help navigate filing claims with government agencies and in some circumstances provide legal support. OLSE could provide a referral to ERC upon request. Alternatively, private counsel could be found using the State Bar of California Certified Lawyer Referral Services Directory and San Diego County Bar Association Lawyer Referral and Information Service (LRIS).

While OLSE cannot provide legal advice, we can provide objective legal information if you send us a message by filling out the web form below, calling our office at (619) 531-5129, or emailing us at OLSE@sdcounty.ca.gov.
