Indigent Disposition Program
The Public Administrator also serves as the County's Indigent Disposition Officer. The Indigent Disposition Program pays for the disposition of bodies of deceased County residents whose estate cannot provide for a disposition.
Eligibility
To qualify for Indigent Disposition, the deceased must meet the following criteria:
- They have no estate from which to pay the cost of the disposition.
- They have no family or legal next of kin who can afford the cost of the disposition.
- They are not eligible for disposition assistance from the Social Security Administration or Veterans Administration.
- The method of disposition is cremation and scatter at sea unless the decent is an eligible veteran. Eligible veterans will be cremated and interred at the National Cemetery.
