What if I am pro per (representing myself) or filed paperwork without an attorney?
If you are pro per (representing yourself) or filed relief paperwork without an attorney, you will not have a Public Defender to assist you at your court appearance. In addition, a Public Defender will not be able to give you legal advice. If you would like a Public Defender to assist you, do one of the following:
1. If you have NOT submitted paperwork to the court, simply fill out a Fresh Start application and we will assist you;
2. If you have submitted paperwork to the court, ask for a Public Defender to be appointed at your next scheduled court date.
If you filed on your own and you request a Public Defender at your next scheduled court date, it will take several weeks for us to assist you since we have other clients in the queue ahead of you.
