Volunteers, age 50+, engage in community activities and give back to the community in significant ways. They receive assistance to find the volunteer activity that best meets their goals in volunteering. Volunteer positions are available throughout the County in many areas, such as museums, parks, law enforcement and human services.

Long Term Care Ombudsman

The Long Term Care Ombudsman program advocates for residents in Long Term Care Facilities, such as nursing homes, as well as investigates abuse in other licensed facilities.  An Ombudsman listens to concerns, provides information and assistance when requested and will investigate and resolve complaints related to care or personal rights. Volunteer opportunities are available throughout the county.

Department of Strategy and Community Engagement

The Department of Strategy and Community Engagement (DSCE) supports HHSA’s strategic and operational goals through strategic planning, community engagement, communications, and data analytics. It serves as the backbone for the Live Well San Diego vision, leading communication strategies, outcome tracking, and partnerships across numerous sectors. The department also oversees anti-poverty initiatives through the Community Action Partnership (CAP), health education via a Community Health Workforce, and collaborates with organizations and residents through Community Leadership Teams. Guided by a collective impact model focused on equity, DSCE prioritizes the needs of vulnerable and underserved populations through culturally and linguistically appropriate outreach and engagement efforts, ensuring all San Diegans have opportunities to thrive

County of San Diego Nursing Volunteer Program

This nursing volunteer program will provide volunteers with networking opportunities through various experiences and interactions. This program will ensure each volunteer has a greater understanding of what Public Health Nursing offers. Nursing volunteer opportunities may vary depending on program and/or location.
