Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) Card

*Special Notice (posted April 30, 2018):

You will  NOT be able to use your EBT card from Saturday, June 23, 2018, beginning at 11 p.m. until Sunday, June 24, 2018  at 11:00 p.m., due to an EBT system update. During this 24-hour  period, you will not be able to use any EBT benefits (food or cash). Plan ahead for your shopping needs and for getting cash. After 11:00 p.m. on June 24, 2018, you will be able to use your EBT card again. In addition to the Customer Service telephone number there is an EBT client website at www.ebt.ca.gov – in English and Spanish – where you can check your food and cash balances, see your card use history, and find places to use the EBT card.*

CalFresh and cash aid benefits come on a plastic card that you can use just like a debit or ATM card. It is called an Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) card.

EBT signs are posted on store doors, in check-out lanes, at automated teller machines (ATM) and point-of-sale (POS) machines tell you if your EBT card can be used at that store or machine.

Starting September 21, 2009, you can access the EBT Client Website at http://www.ebt.ca.gov in English and / or Spanish to:

  • Check your CalFresh and cash benefit balances,
  • See your EBT card use history, and
  • Find places to use your EBT card, including surcharge-free* cash locations.
