Dependent Moving Into or Out of the Service Area

Timing and Documentation

If you have had an eligible dependent move into or out of the service area, you may be eligible for a Qualifying Life Event. 

In response to the national emergency, you have up to 1 year from the event date to provide documentation for the Qualified Life Event. When the national emergency ends, you have 60 days from the move date to request changes to your County benefit selections. Any change you make must be consistent with the qualifying life event change. Your new elections will be effective the 1st of the month after you have submitted your request.
If you are enrolled in UnitedHealthcare, UnitedHealthcare allows for coverage outside of the San Diego area. Please contact Employee Benefits at DHRBenefits.FGG@sdcounty.ca.gov to provide your dependent’s new address and click here for the out of area plan designs.

To Make Changes

You can initiate a Qualifying Life Event and upload a documentation of the event by logging into PeopleSoft Self Service and following this path:

Main Menu> Self Service > Benefits > Life Event > My dependent moved into the coverage area

or

Main Menu> Self Service > Benefits > Life Event > My dependent moved out of the coverage area

If you do not have documentation of your event, you may send an email request to DHRBenefits.FGG@sdcounty.ca.gov to explain what changed and confirm the date of move into or out of the service area.

An Employee Benefits representative will then open a Life Event and send you an email with instructions to make your elections. Receipt of your request will begin the Life Event process, but you must then log in to actively make your new elections after receiving email notification from Employee Benefits.
