OES Student Worker and Volunteer Program

The Student Worker and Volunteer Program is a partnership between the County of San Diego, the Office of Emergency Services (OES), and various universities. The program provides the opportunity for students and volunteers to gain valuable experience generally required by current employers.

OES provides both paid and unpaid opportunities for students and volunteers from the various learning institutions, including high schools, technical institutes, vocational colleges, and universities within the County to work and become familiar with:

 • The concept of public service
 • The functions, programs and operations of federal, state and local governments
 • Undergraduate career work experience
 • Additional career knowledge and work experience for graduate students during the course of their studies

The overall OES Student Worker and Volunteer Program consist of challenging and meaningful work assignments, student mentoring, and increased responsibilities during the course of each internship. Depending on each individual student and volunteer circumstance, internships are either paid, unpaid (experience) or for credits accepted at their university department.

Volunteers that are not current students can still be considered for the OES Student Worker and Volunteer Program and be provided the same opportunities.
