Important Notice Regarding California Assembly Bill 1637 for County of San Diego Vendors

The County of San Diego (“County”) is posting this advisement to inform its contracted vendors (Contractors) of a new law that may affect existing contracted services that are being provided to the County.

California Assembly Bill 1637 (AB1637), also known as the "Government Website and Email Domain Act," was signed into law and went into effect on January 1, 2024. This law requires certain local government agencies, including the County, to use a ".gov” or “.ca.gov” website domain for all its websites that provide information about the County’s programs and services to the public. Please refer to the following URL for the full text of the law: https://leginfo.legislature.ca.gov/faces/billNavClient.xhtml?bill_id=202320240AB1637

County terms and conditions requires Contractors to perform obligations in compliance with all applicable Federal, State, County, and local laws, rules, and regulations (collectively, “Laws”), including Laws enacted after the execution of the contract.

The key provisions of AB1637 that Contractors should be aware of include:

  • Website Domain Requirement: Certain local government agencies, including the County, must use a ".gov" website domain for public facing websites.
  • Compliance Timeline: Agencies have until January 1, 2029, to fully comply with the new website and email domain requirements.

As this law affects Contractors with active County contracts that operate or maintain websites covered by the law, it is crucial that you review the requirements of AB1637 and take the necessary steps to ensure full compliance.

An amendment to your County contract may be necessary to complete this work. If you have any questions or need further information on specific requirements, please do not hesitate to contact your Contracting Officer Representative of your respective County contract.

Thank you for your cooperation in this matter.
