Be the Change and Pick Up Waste: National Clean Up Day is on September 20th!

09/19/25

On September 20, 2025, join millions of volunteers for National Clean Up Day and help remove litter from your local area. In San Diego County, this event is locally known as Coastal Cleanup Day, led for the 41st year in a row by I Love A Clean San Diego in partnership with the Ocean Conservancy, California Coastal Commission, and many volunteer organizations. Last year, volunteers collected more than 104,000 pounds of litter and debris (Source: CBS). This year, you can play a role by choosing from over 100 cleanup sites across the region to make a positive impact in your community!

In addition to these community events, the County of San Diego (County) is also doing its part through everyday actions and programs that support sustainability.

Picking Up Trash

The County is committed to keeping the environment clean and beautiful, and has adopted strong sustainability goals within internal operations, guided by key plans such as the Strategic Plan to Reduce Waste and Climate Action Plan. These initiatives are part of the County Operations Strategic Sustainability Plan, which focuses on reducing waste and building a more sustainable future for all. Additionally, the County regularly participates in community waste and recycling collection events, and supports a variety of environmental outreach programs and cleanups across the region.

Every day is an opportunity to take meaningful action for the environment. Whether you join a scheduled event, organize your own event, or advocate for cleaner, healthier outdoor spaces, your impact matters!
