Alongside community partners, the County is celebrating the completion of a Transformative Climate Communities (TCC) Planning Grant - Sustainable Environment and Engaged Development Strategies (SEEDS).
SEEDS is ending after successful engagement with the Spring Valley community and the completion of TCC planning grant deliverables:
- Community Land Trust (CLT) Feasibility Study: An exploration of options for a local CLT to increase financial equity and stability for residents. A CLT is a structure that allows land to be held “in trust” for community needs, outside of the influence of market pressures.
- Bike Safety Events & Mobility Audits: An examination of non-motorized transportation options such as walking, biking, and rolling to help identify opportunities to improve walkability, bike-ability, and transit use.
- Youth Programming and Community-Based Kitchen Design: The development of a program and construction design plans for a community-based kitchen and composting facilities that will support increased opportunities for employment for young people from agriculture to food service.
- Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) Assessment: An evaluation of the potential to open a health center offering comprehensive healthcare services for low-income residents in Spring Valley to increase access to public health resources.
-
Business Community Connections: The facilitation of
connections to existing and new businesses, further expanding
economic, workforce, and business opportunities.
Check out this video to learn more about the deliverables directly from the partners.
The SEEDS partners – Bikes del Pueblo, County of San Diego Office of Sustainability and Environmental Justice, San Diego Youth Services, San Ysidro Health, Spring Valley Chamber of Commerce, and Spring Valley Community Alliance – are committed to maintaining partnerships to continue advancing efforts to increase economic resiliency, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and address public and environmental health issues. We are currently exploring opportunities for implementation funding based on project and partner readiness. If you know of organizations that may be interested in supporting the implementation of these Spring Valley projects, we would like to hear from you at osej@sdcounty.ca.gov.
We sincerely thank all the Spring Valley residents and community partners for their involvement with SEEDS. You helped further sustainability efforts in Spring Valley and beyond.
SEEDS is supported by the California Strategic Growth Council’s Transformative Climate Communities Program in partnership with the California Department of Conservation.
