Youth Resources: Youth Rights

In California...
- Youth 12 years old and older may consent to their own STI testing, treatement, and prevention services.
- Youth of any age may receive contraception (birth control) without parental consent.
This means that you don't need permission from a parent or guardian to visit a clinic and get these sexual health services.
These services are also confidential, meaning that no one (parents, guardian, school, partner, etc.) will be notified that you visited a clinic, were tested for STIs, or the results of those tests, unless you give written permission to share that information.
