Fallbrook Airpark

Hazard Construction.  County issued Notice to Proceed (NTP) November 12, 2025.

Project Summary:

  • Phase 1:  Mobilization and night test strip (15 days allotted for testing; 24-hours to cure before coring). COMPLETE
  • Phase 2: 30-day full runway closure for milling and reconstruction (south end full-depth reclamation and cement-treated base; north end milling + overlay without dig outs). Add new shoulder backing on Runway 2 to improve drainage.
  • Phases 3/4: 30-day BMP/curing period with temporary striping for reopening; final striping done in a one-day closure after curing. 

 

Funding

  • Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) ~ 95%; County share ~ 5%
  • This was determined grant-eligible per County’s Pavement Management Program (PMP).  

  • We received a federal fiscal year 2025 grant for design and FY2025 for construction.  

  • The County Board approved the project in 2024. 

 

Frequently Asked Questions:

  • Tenant/hangar access: Airport tenants will retain vehicular access to their hangars and facilities at Fallbrook Airpark via the northern airpark road for the duration of the project. 

  • Relocation options: Temporary and free relocation is available at other San Diego County Airports. Note that relocation to Palomar requires badging and wait times.  

  • Security: Contractor will provide a guard at the main access when the access gate is in use for construction purposes; county security coverage is 7 days/week. Confirm daily hours, point-of-contact, and continuity during company transition. 

  • Taxilane Pavement Repair: DPW Airports will be coordinating Taxilane B repair which will commence the week of January 19.  Work shall not last more than 5 days, contingent on weather. 

  • Runway profile ("hump"):  This particular section of the runway is being rehabbed to a depth of 9” and final runway grades will surveyed per plan and do not include a “hump”.
