Riverside Drive Channel Restoration Project
$550k | Completed 2019 | Funded Primarily by Tax Dollars

This project improves water quality in the San Diego River Watershed by increasing infiltration of stormwater runoff.
The priority pollutant in this watershed is bacteria, which enters the storm drain system through pet waste, human waste, and litter. Learn how you can limit your watershed impact with our Educational Resources.

Before Project
Before this project, runoff carried pollutants—such as bacteria from pet waste and excess nutrients from irrigation—into the storm drain system, which ultimately drains to the Pacific Ocean.
After Project
Channel improvements allow runoff to soak into the ground, preventing pollutants from entering the storm drain system and ultimately the Pacific Ocean.

The County of San Diego is proud to implement projects like this to improve water quality, support sustainability, and enhance our local communities.
