The contract for this project has been awarded to Hazard Construction.
Project Summary
The rehabilitation of Runway 17/35 at Gillespie Field includes milling and overlaying the existing runway asphalt. Additional project components include:
- Applying slurry seal to the existing southern Vehicle Service Road
- Constructing new A1/B1 taxiway intersections at the southern end of the runway
The project will improve safety for aircraft operations, extend the useful life of the runway’s pavement, and maintain compliance with FAA airport design standards. Construction is anticipated to begin Fall 2026/Winter 2026-27

- Construction Advertisement - June 2026-July 2026
- FAA Grant Award - September 2026
- Construction Start - Fall 2026/Winter 2026-27
- Construction Duration - Approximately 100 Calendar Days
NOTICE
Construction Security: Contractor will provide security at the airport access gates used for construction.
Runway Access: During the closure of Runway 17/35, Runways 09L/27R and 09R/27L will remain available for use during most of the project. Once a construction schedule has been finalized, all master tenants will be notified
