South Mission Road (North Segment)
Projects 1 & 2
Water Quality & Trash Capture | Project 1 Completed April 2026 | Project 2 to Begin Construction July 2026

Project 1 - Completed April 2026
Located at the intersection of South Mission Road and Pepper Tree Lane, Project 1 added a biofiltration basin (rain garden) and an underground trash capture device that will remove approximately 240 gallons of trash and debris from local waterways per year.
The biofiltration basin, also known as a rain garden, contains native
plants and soil media that remove pollutants from stormwater
runoff.
This project won the 2026 APWA San Diego and Imperial Counties Chapter Project of the Year, Sustainable/Green Cateogry for Projects between $2 Million - $5 Million
Project 2 - Consturction to Begin July 2026
Project 2 will implement multiple biofiltration basins and tree wells along South Mission Road to remove pollutants from stormwater runoff.

Construction: What to Expect
Construction for Project 2 is expected to begin in July 2026 and anticipated to be complete in mid-2027.
During construction, the County will make every effort to minimize disruptions along the roadways. All construction will occur in the public road right-of-way to avoid impacts to private property owners. There will be temporary impacts to utilities, and to both vehicular and pedestrian traffic. Traffic control measures, including signage placed prior to and during construction, will be implemented to ensure the safety of our customers.
