Filing dates and deadlines

The deadline to file an appeal depends on the type of assessment you are appealing. Make sure you submit your application within the correct filing window.

Applications received by mail are deemed received based on the USPS postmark date stamped on the envelope. If the application is received without a USPS postmark, it is deemed received on the date it is actually received by the Clerk of the Board of Supervisors.

Annual assessment (Proposition 8)

Appeals for your property’s value as of January 1

Filing period: July 2 to November 30

Supplemental assessment

Appeals for changes in value after a sale or new construction

Deadline: Within 60 days of the date on your Supplemental Notice

Escape assessment

Appeals for assessments added later because they were missed or corrected

Deadline: Within 60 days of the date on your Escape Assessment Notice

Calamity reassessment

Appeals after a property is damaged or destroyed by a qualifying event

Deadline: Within 180 days of the date on your Calamity Reassessment Notice

Penalty assessment

Appeals related to penalties added to your assessment

Deadline: Within 60 days of the date on your Notice of Penalty Assessment
