Projects in the following areas are reviewed by County Fire

  • San Diego County FPD
  • Borrego Springs FPD
  • Deer Springs FPD
  • Ramona FPD

If your project is not within one of these areas, you will need to submit your plans to the appropriate FAHJ (Fire Authority Having Jurisdiction).

Plan Submittal Requirements

Plans for residential and commercial building projects must be submitted to the County Building Division and will be routed internally to our offices.

  • Grading plans processed in conjunction with a residential building permit application, and through the County Building Division, will be routed internally to our office.
  • Grading plans processed through the Land Development Division will not be routed internally to our offices and must be submitted directly (hand carried or mailed). 
  • Plans for automatic fire sprinkler systems designed to NFPA 13D standard (residential projects only) are to be submitted directly to our office. Three sets of plans and three copies of the system calculations and cut sheets for each type of fire sprinkler head specified, as well as system components, must be provided. Plan sheets must be folded to an 8.5 x 11 format (rolled plans will not be accepted). Plans may be hand-carried or mailed - for return by mail once the review is complete, a postage paid, USPS only, envelope must be provided (we cannot process return mail via UPS, FedEx, etc.).
  • Plans for automatic fire sprinkler systems designed to NFPA 13 and 13R standard (commercial and multi-family residential projects) must be reviewed and stamped by a licensed California Fire Protection Engineer prior to submittal to San Diego County Fire for final approval.
  • Plans for commercial hood systems are to be submitted directly to our office. Three sets of plans and three copies of the system specifications must be provided. Plan sheets must be folded to an 8.5 x 11 format (rolled plans will not be accepted). Plans may be hand-carried or mailed - for return by mail once the review is complete, a postage paid, USPS only, envelope must be provided (we cannot process return mail via UPS, FedEx, etc.).
  • All other alternative fire suppression system plans must be reviewed and stamped by a licensed California Fire Protection Engineer prior to submittal to San Diego County Fire for final approval.

Plans for a fire alarm system must be reviewed and stamped by a licensed California Fire Protection Engineer prior to submittal to San Diego County Fire for final approval.

Form PDS-399F may be hand-carried, mailed, or emailed to our offices. All submittals must be accompanied by a Plot Plan for the project, and are to be directed to the attention of David Sibbet, Program Coordinator (david.sibbet@sdcounty.ca.gov)
