May marks CalFresh Awareness Month, a time to highlight efforts accross San Diego County to help residents apply for CalFresh and connect with food resources in their communities.
CalFresh provides monthly supplemental food benefits that help stretch household grocery budgets. Access to nutrious, healthy food should not be a challenge, and CalFresh helps ensure that fresh, healthy options can be apart of everyday life.
CalFresh food benefits can be used at most grocery stores, select online retailers, and various farmers' markets. A list of authorized retailers is available at SNAP Retailer Locator.
CalFresh supports the County's Live Well San Diego vision by promoting healthy, safe, and thriving communities. Individuals interested in learning more about eligibility can call 2-1-1 to apply by telephone or apply online at BenefitsCal.com.

What is CalFresh?
CalFresh, also known as Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) throughout the United States, is a program that provides low income households with monthly benefits to buy food. CalFresh benefits can help supplement the food budget of a household allowing them to buy more nutritious foods. Eligibility to CalFresh and the amount of benefits a household may receive depends on the household's size, income, and expenses.
CalFresh benefits are provided on an Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) card and can be used to buy food at participating grocery stores, online stores, and farmers markets.

Apply for CalFresh and you may be eligible to receive benefits in as few as 3 days. You can also get food by visiting San Diego Food Bank, Feeding San Diego, or calling 211 San Diego.

Learn how SUN Bucks can help you buy food for your children
SUN Bucks, also known as Summer EBT, is a new program to help families buy food for their school-aged children while on summer break. You do not need to apply for SUN Bucks if your household is receiving CalFresh. Each school-aged child in your household will receive a SUN Bucks EBT card loaded with $120 in benefits to purchase food. Children who get SUN Bucks can still participate in other summer meals programs.
