Public Health Services

Public Health has over 170 years of history in San Diego County. The Public Health Services (PHS) department, of the County of San Diego Health and Human Services Agency, is the local health department. PHS is dedicated to community wellness and health protection in San Diego County, which includes the eighteen municipalities and the unincorporated area. PHS works to prevent epidemics and the spread of disease, protect against environmental hazards, prevent injuries, promote and encourage healthy behaviors, respond to disasters and assist communities in recovery, and assure the quality and accessibility of health services throughout the county.

The PHS Administration branch offers administrative support to the six PHS branches and related programs. In addition to internal support, the Administration branch is also responsible for coordinating a unified response, including information and actions, from the department.
